The Dog Who Waited at My Door Every Morning

One paw rested gently against the glass door, as if he had learned that touching it was the closest he could get to being inside.

His head tilted slightly upward.

And his eyes—

God.

His eyes didn’t look like a stray’s.

They looked like someone who remembered a home.

I stood there holding my coffee for a long moment, unsure what I was even looking at.

He didn’t react when I opened the door a crack.

Didn’t move.

Didn’t flinch.
