Luke didn’t argue.
Instead, he looked toward the driveway.

Dad blinked. « How did you know that? »
« I heard it when you pulled in. You should have the rotors checked before they damage anything else. »
Within seconds, Dad was asking what the repair would cost. Luke answered without pointing out that Dad had doubted his future and trusted his judgment in the same breath.
