My son fifteen years ago

Nothing about him stood out at first.

Then he tilted his head while reading the menu.

And I saw it.

The birthmark.

Same place.

Same shape.

My heart nearly stopped.

For a second, the room around me disappeared. The sound of steaming milk, clinking cups, and customers talking faded into the background.

I stared at him, trying to convince myself it was coincidence.

Birthmarks happen.
