We Nearly Gave Away Our Golden Retriever Because He Barked at the Nany — But Then I Checked the Camera Footage and Was Stunned

But Beau? He lost it.

From the moment she stepped through the door, he growled. Deep, threatening growls that made your skin crawl. He placed himself between her and Zoey at every turn, barked constantly when she was near, and once even bared his teeth.

It was disturbing.

Claire started texting us during shifts:

“Beau won’t stop barking.”
“He’s blocking the crib again.”
“Can we please put him in another room?”
We tried to work around it. We kennelled him. We confined him to the laundry room. But the barking only got worse.

Eventually, we asked the question we didn’t want to ask: Was it time to rehome Beau?

I couldn’t stomach it. I loved that dog. But we had to think about Zoey’s safety.

Then came the night everything changed.

Rose and I decided to go out for a much-needed date night. Claire agreed to stay with Zoey. We locked Beau in the laundry room again. Left the house.

We were barely halfway through our burgers when my phone buzzed.
