The first time I heard Silas Thorne screaming in genuine fear was at ten o’clock on the morning I was supposed to disappear into a maximum-security prison.
“She’s lying! She’s making everything up! Don’t listen to her!”
My husband was standing behind the observation-room glass, pounding his fists against it.
I remained seated, speaking calmly into the microphone.
“Detective, the property is an abandoned farm outside Lexington, Kentucky. It belonged to the Thorne family. There’s an old storage building near the eastern tree line. That’s where you need to look.”
Silas’s expression changed.
“Shut up, Eleanor!”
