“And he left you for her?”
Hannah looked down.
That was answer enough.
Something hot moved through my chest.
Not jealousy. Not exactly.
Anger.
The kind you feel when someone takes a good person and convinces them they are small.
“I wasn’t going to go,” Hannah said. “But the bride is my friend from high school. We grew up together upstate. Her mom used to drive us to church youth group in a minivan that smelled like fries. I can’t just disappear because Alex decided to bring his upgrade.”
The word upgrade came out bitter.
