My Son at the Table

The constant reminder that he didn’t belong there either.

His chest felt tight.

Not like sadness.

Like something heavier.

Like a truth pressing outward, demanding to exist.

The Sentence

Slowly, very slowly, he lowered his pencil.

The words came without hesitation.

Not because they were easy—

but because they were already living inside him.
