Then graduation day came.

The campus was crowded with families, balloons, cameras, and graduates taking pictures everywhere. My mom arrived early in her light-blue dress and pearl necklace, the same one she wore to every important event in my life. When she saw me, her face lit up like I was the only person in the world. “Just one more,” she said, for the fifth time.

That was when I noticed him.
