Miracle plant; Thyme destroys throat infections, the flu, and fights respiratory infections…

Renowned for its numerous therapeutic properties, thyme has become an essential ingredient in our kitchens. From coughs and flu to respiratory ailments, Thymus vulgaris has more than one trick up its sleeve to relieve everyday discomforts. Its traditional use is recognized by the WHO and the European Scientific Cooperative on Phytotherapy (ESCOP), and it is also listed in the French Pharmacopoeia as a medicinal plant.

And for good reason: in the form of an essential oil, an infusion, or an external application, it offers a plethora of benefits. Let’s review them.

1- Anti-infective

The health benefits of thyme are largely attributed to its antiseptic and antimicrobial properties. One study showed that its essential oil was effective against bacteria in 120 patients suffering from oral, respiratory, and genitourinary disorders. To enjoy the benefits of thyme, it can be drunk as a tea or added to meals and salads.

2- Anti-inflammatory

Thanks to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, thyme contains a phenolic compound known as thymol. Researchers have suggested that thymol can reduce asthma symptoms by targeting the free radicals that cause inflammation. Pharmacologist Jean-Louis Brazier recommends inhaling thyme to clear the airways. To do this, boil water, pour it into a bowl, and add two tablespoons of thyme. For best results, lean your head over the bowl, covering it with a towel, and breathe in the steam for a few minutes.
