Her face tightened. « Lori, you should listen to me. »
« No, you had your chance to raise your children. Ethan is mine. »
Luke finally said, « Can we not do this tonight? »
I turned to him. « I would love not to do this tonight. »
Kayla grabbed her purse strap. « I just think you’re making a mistake. »
« And I think you’re refusing to respect a decision Luke and I already made. »
She looked at Luke again.
I felt like they were both having a conversation without me.
I didn’t understand it then. I wish I had.
I said, « Don’t come tomorrow then. »
