On Kate’s second day, the prisoners were escorted into the recreation yard.
Kate stood near the fence, enjoying the cool morning air.
Vanessa noticed the brand-new white sneakers on her feet.
« Those are nice, » Vanessa called loudly.
Kate looked up but said nothing.
Vanessa walked closer.
« I think they’ll fit me better. »
