My voice came out low enough that Grant stopped smirking.

Junie looked up at me.

I softened my face.

“Go put your rabbit on the bed. I’ll be right there.”

She hesitated, then walked down the hall.

The second her bedroom door closed, Diane dropped the grandmother act.

“You look awful,” she said.

“Get out.”

Grant stepped forward.

“Careful. We’re trying to keep this civil.”
