“My Daughter Tried to Send Me to a Nursing Home—But She Didn’t Know I Still Owned Everything.”

There was a brief silence.

Then Daniel Mercer said very calmly, “Sophia… that’s not possible.”

“It is,” I replied. “The property is in her name now.”

“No,” he said firmly. “It isn’t.”

My hand tightened around the phone.

“But I signed—”

“You signed a conditional trust transfer,” he interrupted gently. “A document designed to look like a property transfer to a bank and investors. But the legal ownership never left you.”

The room seemed to tilt.

“What?”

“You asked me to draft it after your husband left,” he continued. “You were worried someone might pressure you to sign the farm away one day—especially if Alexis grew up and married into money.”
