“She does not fit the room,” he said. “Tonight is about perception, not sentiment.”
Colin’s throat moved as he swallowed.
After a tense pause, Miles added, “Remove her name. Revoke her credentials. Make sure she is denied entry if she arrives.”
Colin’s fingers hovered over the screen.
“Understood,” he said, and tapped.
A name vanished.
A clearance revoked.
A door closed.
Colin complied, fully aware he had just erased more than a line on a list.
Miles set the tablet down and felt lighter instantly, as if he’d removed the last stubborn trace of his old life.
