The chandelier above us flickered as if the house itself had exhaled.
Adrian turned to me, fury replacing charm. “You planned this.”
I looked at him evenly. “I survived this.”
He stepped closer, but Victor’s security chief — silent until now — moved between us.
“Mr. Holloway,” he said to Victor, “orders executed.”
Victor nodded. “Escort Mr. and Mrs. Holloway out.”
Elaine’s voice broke. “You can’t throw us out of our own home!”
Victor turned to her. “It was never yours.”
By the time the rain stopped, the foyer was empty except for me, my son, and Victor.
