When Emily saw the little girl running toward the cars

“Lily!” he breathed, pulling her into his arms.

The little girl pointed at Emily.

“She saved me.”

Silence fell.

Michael looked up at Emily.

For a moment, their worlds collided — his polished and powerful, hers worn and tired.

“Thank you,” he said quietly.

She nodded, embarrassed. “Anyone would’ve done it.”

But that wasn’t true.

The next morning, Emily was called into the hotel manager’s office.
