“Get out of that table now,” the cop ordered sharply, assuming authority over the situation. Moments later, he realized the man he had just insulted was actually the owner of the entire restaurant, turning the moment into instant embarrassment.

And then his eyes landed on Dominic and Elise.

Corner table.

Good sightlines.

Clearly desirable.

Occupied.

That was enough.

He walked straight toward them, his companions trailing just behind, the subtle tension in the room beginning to build in ways that only people used to reading environments would notice.

Dominic saw him coming before he arrived.

Of course he did.
