She Was Left at the Altar… So I Stood Up and Said, “I’ll Marry Her.”

And somehow, Marina handled it without throwing a stapler through the conference room glass.

She wasn’t flashy.

No dramatic perfume cloud. No fake laugh. No “look at me” walk.

She wore clean blouses, dark slacks, simple earrings, and had this habit of clicking her pen twice before saying something that usually saved everyone from making a dumb decision.

The first week I worked there, I missed a conflict in a set of specs.

Marina found it before the client did.

She didn’t embarrass me in front of the team.

She just walked by my desk, tapped the page, and said, “Page forty-six is trying to ruin your morning.”

I fixed it.

Later, when I came in sick and tried to power through, she left tea on my desk.
