“Stay with me,” she said. “You pass out again, I swear I’m calling someone whether you like it or not.”

His eyes opened, unfocused at first, then snapping back with that same cold awareness.

“No calls,” he rasped.

Anna leaned closer, anger cutting through the fear.

“You don’t get to make that call anymore,” she shot back. “You brought babies into this, remember? That changes things.”

For a second, something flickered in his eyes.

Not anger.

Something sharper. Something like calculation breaking under pressure.

“They’ll track it,” he said, voice thinner now. “Any call. Any system. You don’t understand what you’re in.”

“Then explain it,” Anna snapped. “Because right now all I see is a man bleeding out and two kids who didn’t ask for any of this.”
